Surprise European Acoustic Gig!
John's hols in Europe were capped off with a really special eleventh-hour
solo-acoustic performance in Vienna, Austria on Sept. 7, 2004. Having spent
some time there in his college days, John considers Wien a second home and
was visiting long-time friends Michaela (a/k/a Michi, a/k/a Mooki) and Leopold
(Der Poldi!). New friends Claudio and Yvonne arranged the surprise invitation
to play at an event hosted by a very cool guy, Mathias, who rescheduled
the event to take place the night before John's return home. The set included
acoustic versions of Metroscene songs, as well as a few choice covers. What
made the show so special and memorable was the terrific audience, who despite
hearing the originals for the first time, sang along to the choruses of
many of them, and even brought on two encores! Es war echt Superlieb!
John would like to give special thanks to Michi, Poldi, Claudio
and Yvonne for sharing their holidays in Ischia, again to Poldi for lending
his guitar (and his voice for terrific harmonies on "Tuesday Morning"),
to Mathias for hosting the event, to Georg and Philipp for the cook-out,
and a shout out to Christoph (Der Griesl!) and his band Paper Moon who played
a great show in the Prater the Sunday before. Thanks to all the old pals
for the years of friendship, and the new pals for years to come...
